Jain

Jainism is an ancient religion from India. Jains have a deep concern for the welfare of every living being and for the health of the universe.

All living souls including animals and plants are considered of equal value and all living souls are treated with respect and compassion. The Supreme principle of Jain living is non- violence – Ahimsa, the three guiding principles are right belief, right knowledge and right conduct. Jains seek to attain ultimate liberation by eliminating all karma from the soul and believe in reincarnation. Mahavivra is regarded as the man responsible for Jainism in its present day form and the teachings of Mahiavira are gathered together in the Agamas. There are around 25,000 Jains in Britain. There is a small Jain community in Bedford.
