It is 80 years since the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp. Liberal Democrat colleagues attended a poignant commemoration at the Anne FrankTree in Russell Park on Monday 27th, organised by Bedford Council of Faiths. The Holocaust is central to Holocaust Memorial Day and we remember the 6 million Jews murdered during the Holocaust.
We also commemorate the millions more people murdered through the Nazi persecution of other groups and in the more recent genocides. A display is available for viewing at the Higgins Bedford reception area until 2nd February; it includes information about Auschwitz and also the genocide in Bosnia.
